X keeps sending you back to “For you”. Here is how to keep notifications, messages and bookmarks while the timeline, trends and suggestions disappear.
What X lets you change
You can switch the timeline from "For you" to "Following", and X will move you back to "For you" whenever it can. You can change the region of the trends but not remove them, and the "Who to follow" box is permanent. There is no quiet mode.
Lists are the closest thing to a calm X: a list shows only what you put in it. It still sits next to the timeline, one click away.
What feed mode does on X
- Timeline hidden on the home page and on Explore, replaced by a card with three links: Notifications, Messages, Bookmarks.
- Trends and "Who to follow" hidden from the right column.
- Everything else works. Profiles, search, your own posts, replies, notifications, direct messages, bookmarks, lists, and any post someone links you to. Posting works from the Post button; the composer that used to sit at the top of the timeline goes away with the timeline.
It works on both x.com and twitter.com. Chrome asks permission for those domains only.
Setting it up
- Install Grivun.
- Open the extension's options, go to Feed mode and turn on X. Chrome asks for permission on x.com and twitter.com.
- Tick Hide home feed and Hide trends and suggestions, or just one of them.
A note on the "Following" tab
Hiding the timeline hides "Following" too. If your problem is the algorithm rather than the scrolling, and a chronological feed of people you chose is fine, X's own "Following" tab plus Grivun hiding only the trends may be enough. Try that first; escalate if you keep ending up on "For you".

Can I still post?
Yes, from the Post button in the left menu, which opens the composer in a dialog.
Does it hide replies to my posts?
No. Notifications, your profile and any conversation you open work normally. Only the home timeline, Explore, trends and suggestions are hidden.
Does it work in the X app?
No. Chrome on a computer only.
